Use a controlled troubleshooting order

Change one category at a time and test after each step. Randomly changing graphics settings, mods and operating-system options together can hide the actual cause.

  1. Compare the system with the official minimum requirements.
  2. Restart the computer and install operating-system updates.
  3. Update the graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel.
  4. Verify the game files in the store client.
  5. Disable all mods and test a new unmodded session.
  6. Disable third-party overlays, monitoring tools and conflicting security software for the test.

Game does not start

Confirm that the CPU supports AVX2, the operating system is supported and the game is installed on an SSD with enough free space. Test without mods even if the same mod set worked before an update.

On Linux, use a supported 64-bit environment and current graphics drivers. The official known-issues page warns against reusing old Transport Fever 2 workarounds such as manually copying libstdc++ unless support specifically instructs it.

Icon appears but the window is missing

The game may have opened on another monitor or outside the visible desktop. Select the game and use Win+Shift+Left Arrow or Win+Shift+Right Arrow to move it. Alt+Enter can switch the game into windowed mode.

Low frame rate or simulation slowdown

Separate graphics load from simulation load. Lower resolution or visual settings and observe whether frame rate changes. Then compare a small map with the affected save. If the small map is smooth but the large network is slow, vehicle count, population, congestion or mods may be the dominant workload.

Close background monitoring and overlay software for a controlled test. Confirm the game uses the intended dedicated GPU in Windows graphics settings or the GPU control panel.

Mod isolation

Make a backup, disable all mods and load a clean test. Re-enable mods in small groups. If the issue returns, divide that group again until the responsible mod or conflict is isolated.

Do not save over the only good copy while required content is disabled. Missing mod assets can alter the save.

Evidence to collect before asking for help

  • Operating system and exact hardware.
  • Game version and store platform.
  • Whether the issue occurs without mods.
  • Whether it occurs in a new map.
  • The last action before the failure.
  • Relevant error message or log excerpt.

Specific evidence makes official support or a mod author much more likely to identify the problem.
