The officially supported route
Transport Fever 3 supports mods on all platforms through its integrated mod browser. The official approach uses mod.io so the same destination can serve Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation and Xbox users. Manual sharing remains possible, but it requires more responsibility from the player.
Add mods in small groups
Install one mod or a small related group, then start the game and load a test save. Large batches make compatibility problems difficult to isolate. Read the mod description, required dependencies, supported game version and known conflicts before enabling it.
Create a manual save before adding content that changes infrastructure, industries, vehicles or scripts. Removing such a mod later can leave missing objects or broken lines.
A safe mod checklist
- Confirm the mod supports the current game version and platform.
- Install every listed dependency.
- Check whether load order matters.
- Test in a new or copied save.
- Keep a record of newly enabled mods.
- Do not overwrite the only good save after a warning.
Troubleshoot a modded game
If the game fails to start or a save stops loading, disable recently added mods first. The official known-issues guidance recommends testing startup without mods. Verify game files and update the game, operating system and graphics drivers before assuming the save is permanently damaged.
Re-enable mods gradually. When the problem returns, the last enabled item or its interaction with another mod is the strongest lead.
Removing a mod
Read the author’s removal instructions. Cosmetic assets are not automatically harmless if they are placed in the world or referenced by a save. Vehicles, stations, industries and script mods can leave dependencies. Use a backup and confirm the save works before continuing play.
